Not only nature but also salt mining made for the regions wealth centuries ago. Traces of this history can be found in the Salt Mine of Berchtesgaden, where you will discover the Mirror Lake and the Magic Salt Room at a depth of 650 meters. Or in the Old Salt Works Bad Reichenhall, one of the most important industrial monuments in Bavaria.

Rossfeld Panorama Street is the highest panoramic motorway in Germany and rewards its visitors all-season with great views of the surrounding mountain peaks in Berchtesgadener and Salzburger Land. And after you braced yourself in one of the mountain inns, you will find many hiking trails with a level of difficulty for every choice.

Warm clothes are compulsory at the Schellenberger Ice Cave - as temperatures are as low as 0° C even in midsummer time! You can warm up on the 3.5-kilometer hiking trail to Germanys biggest and highest ice cave (1.570 m). Experienced Alpinists take the 2-hours trail over the high-Alpine karst plateau (starting at mountain station Untersbergbahn).

The last stretch of the path to the Kehlsteinhaus outside the gates of Berchtesgaden can be done either by feet or by the elevator. On the top, you will be compensated: enjoy the panoramic view onto the western wall of Hoher Göll massif, Lake Königssee, Mount Watzmann, Mount Hochkalter, Mount Untersberg and the beautiful city of Salzburg over food and drinks!
